Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Soldiers Group

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a colorful mix of characters, and a exciting storyline featuring celestial beings, demons, and malevolent powers increasing in strength within the city.

Warning: Key plot points for the latest installment of this adventure follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed

The latest chapter finished on a major cliffhanger and revealed the initial group of heroes who will separate from the primary party to undertake their independent quest, separate from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table includes Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the agile character (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).

The Reason for Division

Given an extensive roster, it was obvious from the beginning that maintaining everyone at a single group would be impossible.

That’s why, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Prelude, intertwining the characters’ stories before dividing into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Schemers, and Explorers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

As described by the DM, the Soldiers table is for participants who are drawn to a classically intense fight-heavy narrative style where non-violent answers are rare.

Initially, characters like the hesitant healer the cleric might seem unsuited, but the events of the third episode show why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the warrior group.

Why They Must Go

First, the team knows exactly where to proceed after a violent opening clash with the antagonists.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose passing initiated the campaign’s events—used the foes for his own means, breaking into the hidden lair, attacking the rogue, and taking all the powerful objects to auction.

Casimir then settled his obligations and escaped to a secure base in the northern region, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd close behind.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each member has a personal reason to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, seeks retribution.
  • The knowledgeable figure has experience in the northern area and cautions that it is a dangerous environment.
  • The warrior and The cleric, having resisted his house’s orders to execute the fighter and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
  • But, their position as important members in House Halovar could assist the party access locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Moreover, Teor swore a life debt to Wicander for his salvation and will now accompany him anywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Finally, all of them are sought by the rulers that govern Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making remaining behind too risky:

  • The rogue and The character are known criminals.
  • Tyranny and The cleric defied the influential house and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • The target is marked for death by the clan.

This leaves them no alternative but to journey toward the remote area in search of the antagonist.

What’s Next?

Based on the recent installment’s follow-up content, we find out that the warrior group will be absent the following episode, leaving the remaining eight players to round up the Seekers and Strategists groups.

Audiences can anticipate learning which characters will be where in the story’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on next week.
